Sunday Morning Thoughts

The Second Beatitude

Happy Sunday everyone, I hope you are well.  Time for the second ‘happy attitude.’ “Blessed are they who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” (Bible Matthew 5:4)  In Aramaic, mourning could mean “sorrow, grief, pain or regret.” It could also mean “purging or releasing.” When we are letting go of the ego, it is painful. The ego to me is the voice in your head that is a screaming mimi. I want this! That’s not good enough! I’m not good enough! How dare that person say that to me? Why did that happen to me? Talk about suffering!  When you listen to screaming mimi there is truly grief and suffering.  (Wednesday I will share one of my personal experiences with screaming mimi.)  So why is letting go of ego painful? Because we still believe we are first and foremost human. The ego fights hard to hold onto its thoughts such as: I have to be the best; I am the smartest; I need to be treated like… The ego also likes holding onto negative thoughts about you. By letting these thoughts go, the ego is getting weaker. It is in fact dying. Our higher Self does not mourn over this dying process. The Higher Self rejoices.

Our human self grieves over the loss of a dream, or loss of our childhood, or over the loss of an easier time and, of course, the loss of a loved one. That is the ego.  The Higher Self does not see loss.  The Higher Self takes everything in as experience and does not judge it as good or bad; our human self does a great job at  judging  everything.

Mourning is different from grieving. What is the difference? While we grieve, we let past moments be more important than present moments. When we do this we miss the opportunity for growth. I read one time, “Surrender to the heart and you can get through the grief into acceptance.” When we do surrender to the heart we move from grieving to mourning. It is in this process of letting go that we cry, we scream, we let it all out, and as we do so, we are comforted. As we shed our tears and our pain, we place ourselves in the arms of God, Divine. We can let the pain release and move towards freedom. When we move through and trust the process, we slowly help screaming mimi to quiet down.  To move away from that voice and to start hearing the still small voice of Spirit. This leads to freedom from the bondage of the ego. As we move towards freedom, our unlimited nature can come forth which allows us to see the infinite possibilities before us and we shall  fly like an eagle.

Thank you for your time.  Hope you all have a great week!
