Another Look

Time to Start Training

Mother Charlotte always taught that we were co-creators, not the Creator. Sometimes I would pray, “Please take this away from me,” whether it was a bad habit or a harmful relationship. What I did not understand deep inside was I had to do my part in the process. It was not magically just going to disappear (though I prayed for that to happen).

I had to be willing to break patterns. Yes, turn things over to Spirit, listen, and follow the guidance. All learning involves attention and study at some level. Without doing anything on our part, the lessons do not go in—we have to practice.

We should all practice word fasting. This teaches us how to listen to what we say so we will know when Screaming Mimi is ruling. If we say to our spouse, “I can’t believe you did that again!” Have another look. What have you not forgiven as of yet? Forgiving is impossible to the ego.

The ego loves to hold onto a grievance FOREVER. When a past grievance comes up and I realize I have not forgiven, I try to remember that Love has no grievances.

It is difficult to change patterns, but we can. Forgiveness is difficult because when a ‘wrong’ has been done to us, we freeze, and the energy pattern gets caught in our body. The deeper the wound, the harder it is to let go. But let go we must. We are only hurting ourselves when we don’t. Holding onto grievances puts us in our own hell when we accept them and routinely talk about them. (There is so much more to say about forgiveness which I will be getting into soon.)

I have heard frequently that people sleepwalk through life. We need to wake up and be present. One simple exercise we can do:

Throughout the day, do the opposite in basic routines. For example, if you put your right sock on first, change it up and put the left on first. If you brush your teeth before you wash your face, do the opposite. These simple actions bring you to the present moment because you have to think rather than doing it by rote.

Just like a body builder who has to work day in and day out to build muscles, we, as spiritual beings, must develop our spiritual muscles. That takes practice and repetition. We need to be gentle with ourselves because, just like a body builder, it does not happen overnight.

Let’s get our spiritual muscles in shape by building gratitude while letting go of judgment and complaints. Put on a new pair of glasses and see the good, the holy, and the beautiful.
