“Tolerance for pain may be high, but it is not without limit. Eventually everyone begins to recognize, however dimly, that there must be a better way.”
A Course in Miracles
The joy that comes when you find the better way is what I want to share with others—not by preaching, but by being, by sharing. All of us have had difficult and painful times in our lives. As you learn about the better way, you find true joy. Someone once said to me that it is in the hard times that she learns and changes the most.
When things seem good, there is no reason to change.
It is for this reason I can rejoice in everything I have gone through, because not only do I have a high tolerance for pain, but also I can be stubborn. Everything I have gone through was necessary to get to where I am in my spiritual journey.
Maybe if I was not so stubborn, my journey could have been different. Who knows? I do know by going through everything I have, I can say above all else, I want God. I want to know Source so intimately, (I know that I do; I just have to awaken from the illusion.) yet I allow myself to be deceived. I am deceived by Screaming Mimi, who does her best to run away from God instead of opening up to God.
When we meet a person we desire to marry, we can go on and on about the qualities that attracted us to that person. For example, we might love that the person is always present for people, that they love giving a client all the time they need. Five years later, it becomes our aversion. Our spouse is always late, and we think they put others before us. This goes on and on. Without a relationship with God, all the other relationships suffer.
Holy Spirit will continue to guide and teach us how to move through any situation we are in if we just listen. Maybe Holy Spirit will show you how your ego is getting involved and how another look is needed. Maybe you will be led to leave because you are not in the relationship that will help you grow into the person you truly are. You could stay in a relationship for years in misery, complaining, never growing because you did not listen to the still, quiet voice within. On the other hand, Screaming Mimi may scream, “I will not put up with this any longer.” Yet, if you sat in the quiet, you would hear, “Sit, stay, and be patient. You are right where you are supposed to be.”
Always take time to ponder. That is needed for growth. Spirit, the still, small voice within, will never lead you wrong, NEVER. If you are in difficult times right now, take a deep breath and LISTEN. Jesus said, “I am with you always.” You are not alone, EVER. Help is just a breath away.
