There are two areas of healing I would like to talk about: Healing of self and healing of relationships.
Both are important. Before we can truly love others, we have to forgive and love ourselves. We are hard on ourselves because we feel shame. Shame does so much to us, we try to hide from it. We push it down so deep we are unconscious of it.
I have read this referred to as our “shadow self.” It is not who we truly are but who we see ourselves to be. A simple example, as a child I was ashamed of my body. I thought I was fat. I would look in a mirror and be ashamed. I carried that for years, until I embraced myself.
When we judge ourselves or another, we are saying, “I want this to be different. I want to change what was created out of Love.”
Our ego, Screaming Mimi, loves to judge. Judging ourselves, telling ourselves that another person is smarter, prettier, or ____ (fill in the blank) is painful. Instead of knowing who we truly are, Mimi is complaining about why we could not be more like someone else.
When we judge others, we feel superior: I would never act like that—how dare they act like that to me, TO ME! When we judge others, we are saying, “I don’t value peace and forgiveness, I am interested in judgment.”
When we judge, we are keeping the dream that we are separate from each other alive and well. We are saying no to oneness. Rumi, a famous Sufi poet, wrote:
Out beyond ideas of wrong doing and right doing, there is a field. I’ll meet you there.
Let’s all go and meet there, where judgment is not present, only Love is.
Whether you want to heal yourself or a relationship, I would like to share some comments a man named Dr. Stutz gave in a documentary I recently watched on Netflix. He said:
Surround yourself with Love, all around yourself. Take in all the Love of the Universe; put it in your heart. Pour the Love into the person you are having a problem with; hold nothing back. The two become one.
I am adding, “pour that love into your shadow self” if you are doing self healing. It is easier to forgive when you realize you are One. The goal is to come to let our Spirit lead the way, not our ego. Slowly, they merge. In Spirit, there is only Self, not self and other. We are one.
I am not quite sure why I chose to write about this today, but here it is. Let’s learn Love, by teaching Love. I mean let people learn Love through all our actions, words, and gestures. We learn, as we share Love, and others learn from receiving.
Let’s heal ourselves and begin to make this world a brighter place. As we value receiving Love, the universe will reflect Love back.
