I Am Under No Law but God’s

So many of the norms and belief patterns in a society cause unhappiness. For example, what we believe success is comes (at first) from what our family emulates. You might believe fame is success or making tons of money or a beautiful body (that definitely goes away), youth (another one that goes away), or maybe you think success will be if everyone respects you.

All of these can cause unhappiness. I am not saying having money isn’t nice, but when you are connected to money first, there will always be fear that you will lose it. The same idea applies to all the outward things we base our happiness on. Other societies have different norms and beliefs, but they will produce the same problems.

The religious laws are ingrained deeper. That is because many of us are born into a family that has been Christian, Jewish, or Muslim for hundreds of years. When I first started rethinking the laws of the Catholic Church, I carried an incredible amount of guilt, which is actually funny since I no longer believe in the laws. The first time I ate meat on Friday, I thought, Oh no! what have I done? I started breaking one law at a time to break all the fear patterns I had picked up. These laws were not created to break me free, but rather, they were about keeping me in bondage.

I am under no laws but God’s. So, what are God’s laws? They are so simple but not easy. The only reason they are not easy is because of the ego.  The ego loves to complicate everything.

God’s law is LOVE. When our higher self leads, we always will choose Love. Why? Because that is who we are.

When we allow our ego to rule the roost, we are not allowing Spirit to live through us. Don’t get me wrong—some of the traditions in all of the different churches are beautiful. They can have rich meaning. However, these traditions were not taught to me from a place of explanation. It was more like a father saying, “Don’t ask questions, do what I tell you”.

I heard a story that this woman had a ham for Easter every year. Every year, she cut the ham in half and put it in the oven. She did that because that is how her Mom cooked the ham. Finally, one year she asked her mother “Why do we cut the ham in half before we cook it?” The mother’s reply “My oven is not big enough to put it in whole.”

It is time to question the rules we follow.

The only question that matters is: Is this law God’s? If not, throw it away. There have been difficult times in history when people have asked this question and it led to their deaths. Can you die? No, we are eternal. Yes, we leave our body and this three dimensional experience, but our consciousness lives on when we let go of our body.

If you follow these human rules or norms in difficult times, you might stay alive in your body, but you can become part of the problem. The most obvious example is how many people listened to the voice of Hitler because they were frightened for their life. Enough people stayed silent, which gave Hitler strength.

It is time to wake up, time to wake up from our hypnotic state. Listen, listen to the still quiet voice within. Listen to the voice that only speaks the language of Love. Follow the course that the still quiet voice puts before you, and you will lead a peaceful life.
